User Guide

From adding images to exporting the final result takes only five steps. This page fully explains what each feature does and how to use it. We recommend reading it through on first use, after which you can process batches efficiently.

Five Steps to Batch Watermarking

  1. Add images: Click "Click to select" or drag images into the dashed box (multiple supported); you can also click "📁 Import whole folder" to import an entire directory (including subfolders) at once. Drag the ⋮⋮ handle in the list to reorder.
  2. Choose watermark type: "Text" is ideal for copyright or anti-theft notices; "Image" is ideal for placing a logo. Text content supports multiple lines — press Enter to split into multiple watermark rows.
  3. Adjust the style: Set font size, color, opacity and rotation, and optionally enable stroke, shadow and a semi-transparent background box. For logo watermarks you can adjust scale, opacity, rotation and corner radius. All adjustments render live in the preview.
  4. Choose layout: "Tile Full" repeats the watermark across the whole image (density, tilt and scatter are adjustable); "Single Position" uses the 3x3 grid for quick placement, or you can drag the watermark handle in the preview to fine-tune. After dragging, click a grid cell to return to the preset position.
  5. Export & download: Choose PNG (lossless) or JPG (adjustable quality), and optionally limit the long edge to reduce file size. Click "Add Watermark & Download ZIP" to get a ZIP archive; a progress bar appears during export and you can cancel at any time.

Feature Details

FeatureDescription
Multi-line text watermarkPress Enter in the content box to start a new line; each line is drawn independently and centered as a group — perfect for a "site name + date" two-line combo.
PlaceholdersBoth watermark text and the export suffix support {n} (index, starting from 1), {date} (today's date) and {name} (original filename), auto-replaced per image in a batch.
Tiled watermarkAdjustable density (spacing). "Tilt" randomly rotates each tile by a small angle; "Scatter" randomly offsets each tile's position. Combined, they look more like a real captured watermark and are hard to batch-crop out.
3x3 grid placementIn single mode, click a grid cell for quick placement; drag the watermark in the preview for arbitrary fine-tuning. The position area shows "Custom position set" and a one-click "Reset" returns to the preset.
PresetsSave a frequently used config (e.g. "diagonal tiled semi-transparent black text") as a template and apply it with one click next time. Templates are stored in your local browser.
Undo / RedoNearly every parameter change can be undone (Ctrl+Z); redo is Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z. Up to 80 history steps are kept.
Skip exportUncheck an image in the list and it is automatically skipped on export (shown semi-transparent) — handy for picking a subset out of a large batch.
Parallel exportWhen the browser supports it, multi-threading (up to 4 Workers) is enabled automatically; otherwise it falls back to the main thread with identical results.

FAQ

Answers to common questions about privacy, formats, batch limits and export quality. If you don't find what you need, contact us via the email on the About page.

Q1: Will my images be uploaded to a server?

No. This is a pure front-end tool. Images are decoded, drawn and encoded entirely in your browser's memory via Canvas — they are never sent to any server and cannot be accessed by us or any third party. You can disconnect from the network after importing images and the tool still works fully.

Q2: Which image formats are supported?

Import supports every common format the browser can decode: JPG / JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame) and BMP, among others. Export supports PNG (lossless, keeps transparency) and JPG (adjustable quality, auto white background fill).

Q3: What is the maximum number of images per batch?

There is no hard limit; it depends on your device's memory and image size. A typical office PC is comfortable up to ~200 per batch. When processing large phone photos (4000px+), limit the export long edge first to lower memory pressure. For very large collections, split into batches and merge the ZIPs at the end.

Q4: Will exported watermarked images be lossy?

PNG export is lossless compression with crisp watermark edges. JPG defaults to quality 90, visually indistinguishable in most cases. For formal publication or e-commerce, PNG is recommended.

Q5: Why does the export look exactly like the preview?

Preview and export use the same drawing code, and the tiled random tilt/scatter uses a deterministic pseudo-random algorithm (same parameters always yield the same result). There is no "looks good in preview, off on export" problem.

Q6: Can I number a batch of images differently?

Yes. Use the {n} placeholder in the export suffix or watermark text and the tool auto-numbers from 1 in export order. Reorder images in the list to change the numbers.

Q7: Where are my watermark settings and templates stored? Do they survive a device change?

They are stored in your browser's localStorage — not uploaded, not synced. Switching devices or clearing the site data resets everything to defaults, so you'll need to reconfigure.

Q8: Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The page is responsive and touch supports dragging the watermark and pinch-zooming the preview. Open it in a mobile browser and "Add to Home Screen" to use it as a PWA app.

Q9: Does it work offline?

After the first online open, the Service Worker caches all required files; afterwards the tool works fully offline for watermarking and export. Once installed as a PWA, the experience matches a native app.

Q10: How do I clear my saved data?

Clear this site's data (localStorage) in your browser settings — that removes last-used parameters, templates and preferences. The site stores no image files, so there is nothing to worry about there.

Q11: Why does the browser slow down after exporting dozens of images?

Batch processing keeps many source and result bitmaps resident at once, which is memory-heavy. Suggestions: moderate batches (100–200 each), use the long-edge limit for very large images, and close the result dialog promptly to free memory.

Q12: Can I watermark any image? Are there copyright restrictions?

Only add watermarks to images you own or are authorized to use. This tool is a "watermark adding" tool for asserting copyright and preventing misappropriation; please do not use it to forge origin, infringe others' IP, or for any unlawful purpose. See the Terms of Service for details.

About Us

A small online tools site focused on being "easy, good-looking, and hassle-free."

Who We Are

Batch Watermark Tool is a completely free online tool site for photographers, e-commerce sellers, content creators, designers and anyone who needs to add copyright marks to images in bulk.

What Makes Us Different

Technology

The tool is built on HTML5 Canvas, OffscreenCanvas and Web Workers: multiple images are drawn in parallel across several Worker threads while the main thread handles interaction and preview. ZIP packaging uses our own store-mode packer (with CRC32 checksums). The entire site has no backend, no database and no tracking scripts.
